  • Arthritis is the inflammation of the joints. It causes pain and could limit the motion of the joints that are affected. The Osteoarthritis (the most common type of arthritis) could affect any joint in the body, wearing the cartilage and dismantling the buffer layer among bones.
  • Some of us, however, will experience more serious age-related eye diseases that have greater potential for affecting our quality of life as we grow older. These conditions include glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
  • Alzheimer's disease is currently ranked as the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, but recent estimates indicate that the disorder may rank third, just behind heart disease and cancer, as a cause of death for older people
  • Prostate cancer is a disease which only affects men. Cancer begins to grow in the prostate a gland in the male reproductive system.
  • The risk factors for the elderly are very similar to those for the population at large. Those at highest risk of high blood pressure are those who suffer from obesity, diabetes, and those with chronic kidney disease.
  • Depression impacts older people differently than younger people. In the elderly, depression often occurs with other medical illnesses and disabilities and lasts longer.
